When melting chocolate or confectionery coating, there are a couple major league don'ts. Don't let water or other liquid come in contact with it, or it will "seize." And don't allow it to get too hot. Excess heat will both cause the chocolate to separate, rendering it unusable.
You can check the temperature of the chocolate by dabbing a small amount of it on your lip or the inside of your wrist. It should feel warm, not hot.
Coating chocolate and some brands of couverture come in small discs for easy melting. If you're using a large block of chocolate, chop it into small pieces so that it melts evenly. The easiest way to do this is on a cutting board, using a serrated knife.
To melt chocolate or confectionery coating:

In the microwave: This is a very easy way to melt chocolate: place it in a microwave-safe bowl and zap it on high power at 10-second intervals, stirring each time, just until it's completely melted.
In a slow cooker: A slow cooker, set on low heat, is perfect for melting chocolate and keeping it at just the right temperature while you work. All you need to do is stir it occasionally and keep an eye on it to make sure it's not getting too hot. D-Link Dir-655 Wireless Router

I previously had a Linksys WRT54G and was moderately satisfied with it until it started exhibiting signs of 'cheapness', like general flakiness, inability to load the web management (it'd load a blank screen), etc. After getting frustrated enough, and desiring a router with gigabit ports, I started searching, until I came across the DIR-655.

The first best part (and there's more than one) of this D-Link Dir-655 Wireless Router was unpacking it. Honestly, it's the sexiest networking device I've seen in a long while. There's a button hiding stealthily on the right side, if you take note, but no mention is made of it in the manual. Also included in the package is a little black plastic stand, so you can stand the router on end - that's pretty standard for D-Link, and I like that. They threw in a Cat-5 cable, was that a joke? What am I going to do with a Cat-5 cable on a gigabit router? That's very amusing.

I elected not to run the software included on the CD. There's no real need if you know what you're doing. However, for more advanced users I'd recommend connecting the router to your computer, but NOT connecting to your internet connection (cable modem), and just spending a few minutes familiarizing yourself with your new sweet toy and all of her options.

Now for the good stuff: This router is amazing! The main 'Setup' page is basically divided into 2 parts for each section, a 'wizard' for quick-and-easy setup, and a 'manual' page. Basically, if you're a beginner, stick to the wizard pages. If you wanna get up and running fast, go through the wizards, you can always go back later and manually tweak the settings to your liking.

Connectivity is top level. I tested it by transferring 25 GB of large files then 25GB of small files between two hosts connected to this router, both using 10 feet of cat6 each. 100% success, no packets lost, no fragmentation, and the transfer was about 4% faster than the same transfer straight through on an unmanaged gigabit switch. Internet connectivity was great too. Thanks to the built-in SPI firewall, all the 'network noise' (thanks to all the other 'dirty' hosts on comcast's network) is effectively eliminated, and honestly speeds up my internet activity significantly over what I'm used to when using the WRT54G. Checking the logs revealed the dirty details of all this crap that's filtered out, and I like it gone.

Wireless-N connectivity was also good. Not much can be said here, it works like it should, and I have no complaints.

Administration is also very nice. As usual, the router is administered via browser, and while that's cool, I'd also like to be able to ssh into it and take care of business via CLI, but alas that is not to be. But otherwise, the web management is well designed, fast and easy to understand. This router also checks periodically for firmware updates and notifies you via email if you have the email settings enabled.

Other items of note: VoIP works flawlessly, as does all online gaming that I tried. Latency is noticeably reduced (on my favorite server, from about 80ms to about 60ms avg) in Half-Life 2 deathmatch. torrents worked fine. So far I have no real complaints about this router. It's now my most favorite part of my network.

Overall, I give this 5/5. Honestly, I'd easily say it's worth the price I paid for it (at the time it was $140), and for my network it is a perfect match. If you're a 'normal' computer user, don't buy this just to impress your friends; the features and complexity would be lost on you and are not worth the price.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5 Camera

I said "Depends on What You're Looking For" because everyone has their own expectations and needs. In my case, all my DSLRs have been Nikon, and all my small pocket cameras have been Canon. I was in the market for a new pocket camera since my others didn't have optical image stabilization. So I bought another small Canon, and for some reason, just not as pleased anymore (I ended up giving to my wife and she loves it). I must admit I'm picky on quality of the image, high ISO capability, and having some control over camera setting.

A friend of mine had been looking at DSLRs, but bought the LX5 and asked what I thought about it. The more I reviewed and analyzed it, the more I liked it. So I bought one. It's close to a pocket size camera, but a little larger. Though the specs say 4.3 inch x 2.6 inch x 1 inch, that is true, but just for the body itself. The lens with lens cap adds another inch sticking out. So the body is OK, but a little bigger than I previously would purchase for casual carry around shooting. But, it's still not that large overall, and fits in jacket pockets, larger pants pockets just fine.

So after using this camera, I changed my outlook. Why? Because this camera met my expectations of high quality images, high ISO capability, and having control over all aspects (but I found automatic mode produces outstanding images also, so it's a win-win on this camera). This camera is the first compact I ever owned that produces superb images which I don't find myself complaining about. The images actually look like the original scene. Exposure control is excellent, focusing is accurate, images look great, and the camera is easy to use. For being picky, I really haven't found a complaint yet. Lumix did a good job on this one.

Even though this Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5 Camera has a hot shoe on top for an external flash, I don't buy compacts for that reason, normally wouldn't care if one was there anyway. I would use my DSLR for that purpose. However, that's me, so I took my Nikon SB800 flash (which is 3 times the size of the camera) and stuck it on the LX5. I put the camera in Aperture priority mode, set the f/stop and set the flash accordingly. No problem. Everything worked very well. Though you can't expect to get a computerized camera to flash operation that a dedicated Panasonic flash would give you, it does mean you can use whatever flash you want on the camera and get good photos. (I posted one under customer images using the Nikon flash).

So it does depend on what you're looking for in a camera that suits your needs, in my case, this camera does excellent and very pleased with it.

Wabash Valley Farms 25008 Whirley Pop

I've been using my Wabash Valley Farms 25008 Whirley Pop for three years now. I eat a lot of popcorn, and I've tried every method known to man for making it. This device wins the prize: it makes a full pot of fluffy, crisp corn using a minimum of oil, leaving essentially no unpopped kernels.

But you have to pay attention to the directions and leave your preconceptions behind this Stovetop Popcorn Popper.

1. Don't use high heat. Yes, with the usual heavy pot you use high heat and shake vigorously. With Whirley Pop, you should use medium heat, and just crank the crank.

2. Don't use too much oil. 1-2 tablespoons is plenty. Use canola oil and you have a low-fat, low-cholesterol snack that tastes delicious.

3. Use good-quality popping corn. Orville's is good, but I've also gotten fine results with bulk popping corn for 50 cents a pound as well. Just know your source. And store it properly, sealed, dry, and cool. I've tried several exotic and (expensive) varieties and usually achieved results inferior to Orville's.

4. DON'T USE HIGH HEAT. Really. Most of the problems people seem to have with the Whirley Pop can probably be traced to setting the burner to High.

I don't really recommend any of the other products - corn, oils, flavorings - sold along with this popper, but the popper itself makes perfect popcorn, the best I've every had. You just have to pay attention to what you're doing and follow the instructions.

Krups KM7000A coffee conical grinder

I've had the same Krups drip coffee maker for 20 years (yes, it still works) and decided it was time to upgrade. After a good deal of research, I settled on the Krups grind and brew and I am glad I did. This Krups KM7000A coffee conical grinder is the real deal here folks. While I do have to measure the beans, and I had to set the strength to my liking, this machine makes a superb cup of coffee. It has a burr grinder, not a blade, and there is a cover that swings shut to keep the channel from the grinder from getting clogged up with steam. Also, in my experience, my machine also did not spill any grounds from the grinder. The grinder is quieter than my standalone grinder, and I have to tell you, coffee from freshly ground beans is truly a great thing.

The Thermal Coffee Maker is programmable, and you can set the strength and how many cups you want to brew. If your tap water isn't the best in the world, you can insert a filter under the water tank to help with the taste of the water.

One more thing. This coffee is HOT. This machine produces a HOT (and strong, if you like it that way) cup of coffee. You can adjust the strength, but let me tell you, it does not produce a warmish cup of coffee. This coffee is even hotter than the one my 20 year old Krups machine makes, so it shows that they have improved over the years.

Canon Digital Camera G12 : Most impressive!

As I'm an old film guy who has resisted digital photography almost as much as dentist visits, I've really avoided making the jump. Of course, I've had a few small point and shoot cameras for quick snapshots. But recently, I've found it necessary to get this Canon Digital Camera G12 with more capabilities and quality.

I'd love to have a higher-end DSLR, but flying these days really doesn't lend itself to lugging a big camera bag with a couple of lenses, flash, etc. I gripe just taking my shoes off at the security checkpoint. And I am avoiding paying checked bag fees as much as I possibly can!

Last April, I finally decided to get something a bit nicer, and after weeks of searching through review after review, I finally settled on a Fuji HS10. At first, I loved that camera. Then, I discovered that particular unit was eating batteries with the voracity of John Pinette at a Vegas buffet. So, back it went. And I waited and continued to research.

Then, along comes Canon with this G12. Remember, I'm an old film guy, so I like some controls. But after 5 minutes playing with this camera, I was most impressed. Startup - it's ready to go in a flash. Focus - spot on for 99% of the photos I've shot (nothing's perfect), and that 1% I can peg on me for focus issues. Low light? Simply amazing! This camera's ability to compensate for low light is borderline spooky. Combined with the lens image stabilization, I've taken shots that would have required a tripod, cable release, and good old-fashioned luck with a film camera.

Sports mode is very good. While the 'rapid-fire' shots aren't blazing fast, they are sharp, clean, and quick to save. In fact, the camera is fast with saves in most every mode I've tried. And speaking of modes, I discovered one that I've fallen in love with - Nostalgia mode. With a quick click of the front-mounted scroll-wheel, one can age a photo making it appear a bit washed out and grainy. For artistic shots, this mode just made me feel like I was working darkroom magic without the darkroom!

Some folks have complained that it's too big for a pocket. I didn't really have any issues with that. In fact, I think that for everything this camera can do, it's size is one of the biggest selling points.

I just returned from a quick trip to Jamaica where I took all sorts of shots. The ones that got the most compliments were the low-light shots. And everyone that asked and showed this camera were amazed at what it was able to do.

As I mentioned - I'm incredibly impressed with this camera.

Dyson 15804 01 DC28 Animal Review

We bought the Dyson 15804 01 DC28 Animal after considerable research on line. The Dyson is certainly the most expensive vacuum we ever had but our first cleaning indicates its worth it.

I have read other reviews complaining that you need to empty the canister after each room. We live in a home with two indoor cats both of whom shed. When we put the Dyson to work in our living room, the results were simply put...astonishing! We didn't get one canister of dirt; we got THREE! Cat hair mostly that the Dyson pulled up out of the carpet. It will be interesting to see how many canisters we get next time we vacuum. Since our house has always been regularly vacuumed and did not look dirty when we started, I would conclude that the Dyson performed in A+ fashion.

One reason we chose the Dyson is because I'm an asthma sufferer and the last time I ran our old vacuum, it generated so much dust I had an attack and had to use my inhaler. Dyson offers a HEPA filter and specifically advertises that their machines are very friendly to allergy suffers. I was extremely pleased that in spite of 3 canisters of dirt and cat hair sucked up by the DC~28 in my living room, I experienced no discomfort whatsoever while using the unit, or thereafter. In fact, after completing the vacuuming, we removed the filter (it just pops out) and inspected it. There was almost no visible dirt on it...indicating that the dust and dander was going in the canister, not into the filter.

The fit and finish of this Dyson Animal Vacuum is very good. One thing I appreciated was that it came in a box with a carry handle. The manufacturer had set the handle slightly offfrom the center of the box so that the box containing the vacuum balanced nicely when carried. This is superb attention to detail...just what you expect when you buy the Rolls Royce of vacuums.

Chefs Choice 662 International Professional Review

I first ordered ( November 2003) a model 645 Veri-tilt unit but was disapointed because the "travel" on the slicer was not adaquate to slice my much loved prosciutto.The blade was only 7 inches and was serrated. It also lacked a blade cover so I was sure it would "drag" when slicing. (At $20.00 a pound for good prosciutto I didn't even try!)

In December 2003, I bought the The larger Chefs Choice 662 International Professional with the 8.6 inch smooth blade was a far better choice! It had a covered blade that only exposes the cutting edge of the blade to the meat surface. This is also a much safer configuration then the "exposed" blades found on the less expensive models.

This Electric Meat Slicer is solidly built and appears to be of a very high quality. The travel on the slicing cariage is long enough to cut most meats. The "rump" side of the average prosciutto is still a bit larger than the travle distance of the slicer but this is easily overcome by trimming the sides of the meat to slightly narrow it.

I have been thrilled with how thin this slicer can can "shave" a piece of meat. I can actually read through some of the slices. I have used this slicer to cut Roast beef, salami,turkey,chicken, tomatoes,onions, prosciutto, and even limes! It has never failed to perform as I had hoped. This is truly a "deli" quality slicer even if it is a bit small. Don't get me wrong, it is still a rather large machine and needs a bit of counter and storage space to operate. I actually am happy that it will fit in my cabinet, because my wife wasen't thrilled with the idea of this thing being on the countertop all of the time!

Having this machine has saved me both time and money when entertaining friends. (We throw parties a few times a year and it has made quite an impression on our guests!)

I have not tried the included blade sharpener yet but the instruction are clear and quite simple. I'll post again once I have tried the sharpener.

Well it is now the Friday before Super Bowl 42 (4 years later, Feb. 2008) and I said I would let you know how the 662 blade sharpener has performed. Sorry to tell you that I can't do so because I have not had to sharpen the blade yet!! This machine still cuts like new! I have used this slicer on MANY occasions and am still pleased with its overall performance. I will use it again this weekend.

As others have noted clean-up takes a few minutes. The sliding carriage can be put in the dish washer if you like, but the rest is clean by hand!

As far as durability is concerned I have to replace the small plastic "slice-stopper" that keeps items from getting sucked into the blade. This is not dangerous but it can add to clean-up time.

Black Decker CM5050 Programmable Coffeemaker

If I could have waited for delivery, I'd have purchased this from Amazon. I don't know a coffee drinker who will even wait for a day, much less up to two weeks for a Cappuccino Coffee Maker. That said, this would make a great gift for any occasion.

I've only had this Black Decker CM5050 Programmable Coffeemaker for two weeks but that's time enough to discover quirks that might make it unappealing to others.

The coffee maker I replaced was the Mr. Coffee, IS series. It was great while it lasted, but it only lasted four years. I expect more for my money than that.

To comapare the two above mentioned models, both brew great coffee, and the B&D CM5050 brews 12 cups in ten minutes, where Mr. Coffee took twelve. That's a plus if you don't use the auto brew.

The B&D has a big digital clock; the Mr. Coffee had a hard-to-read analog.

B&D allows you to set your brew strength, but if you like "strong", it defaults back to "regular" at the end of the brewing cycle, so it must be reset with each new brew. Mr. Coffee saved the option; I liked that.

Mr. Coffee allowed a temperature control for the hot plate (a plus in my book), B&D doesn't, and the coffee is scalding when you pour it. Mr. Coffee also has a special cleaning cycle, this B&D doesn't.

The permanent coffee filter in the B&D is a great addition. I hesitated using it because of my poor experience with permanent filters. If you've rejected the use of these permanent filters because of a fine silt that settles in the bottom of the carafe, this permanent filter allows none of that. Use it; it will save money on paper filters.

I haven't used the 1 - 4 cup brewing feature. I brew a full pot in the morning, and never drink coffee for the remainder of the day.

My main complaint with B&D is the preset warmer plate, but all other aspects are either equal or superior to the Mr. Coffee. So, it's a matter of personal choice. I would have been happy to buy another Mr. Coffee, but I really expected a longer lifespan.

When I went "pot shoping", the B&D won because it was $10 cheaper, and I was already disappointed with the premature death of my Mr. Coffee. If this brewer dies at four years, I'll look for a new model. So far, I'm pleased with what my money bought.

Sony Cybershot DSC-TX10 User Review

Pros:
1) The TX10 shines in low-light still photography, it eliminates most of the noise even at ISO 800.
2) The small form factor means you can easily hide the camera from "predators."
3) It is water "resistant' but not truly waterproof aka. you shouldn't go scuba diving with it.
4) It's High Definition 1080p video is pretty good compared to other digital cameras in this price range.
5) Zooming while videotaping is possible. Most consumer digital cameras can't zoom while in video mode.
6) Surprisingly good wide-angle (you don't need a wide-angle adapter)
7) The panorama mode is cute and effective but not very high quality (noise is introduced due to panorama cropping).
8) Excellent flash coverage.
9) Choice of MPEG or AVCHD recording. MPEG is the best choice for compatibility and editing but it takes more space in your memory card. AVCHD is a pain to edit compared to MPEG.

Cons:
1) Compared to my old Canon HV20 the TX10 is simply unable to stabilize the image. Not a deal breaker but you may want to bring a tripod with you at all times.
2) Battery life is dismal, I cannot get more than 80 minutes of continued video shooting from a fully charged Sony battery. I understand third party batteries fair worse (if they work at all). This is a particularly poignant issue if you are near water since you cannot open the camera to change the battery then.
3) The TX10 can charge the battery "in-camera", it does not come with the standard battery charger, instead Sony has included a USB cable and a USB adapter. This is a terrible problem for travel photographers since the battery life is short but it takes several hours to recharge the a battery inside the camera, obviously, while it is charging, you are unable to take photos or videos. This also means you cannot charge your "spare battery" at the same time. In order to solve the problem, you would have to buy extra batteries and an external battery charger, so now you have to carry two chargers. This could have been easily avoided if Sony had included their regular battery charger as they do with older models.
4) All the 3D shooting modes are useless gimmicks, ignore them. They just take precious space in your memory card and you can't view 3D without special equipment.
5) A Mini HDMI to HDMI cable was not included, it could cost you up to $30 to buy a Sony cable. Just get a cheap one for a couple of bucks, don't buy the Sony one, HDMI cables are all compatible.
6) The interactive touch sensitive menu can only be described as a complex labyrinth, extremely awkward to navigate. If Sony was aiming for a friendly interface, they failed miserably.
7) The LCD touch screen is hyper-sensitive and the tiny icons are way to close to each other, the end result it that you rarely press the icon you were aiming for, by the time you solve the mess you created accidentally, your subject has fled the scene. You can help this by "hiding" the icons but then, well, that also requires extra time. Results in an above average learning curve.
8) This camera is extremely slow sometimes, mostly because the 1080p video and the larger 16.2MP pictures require more processing time. Not an ideal camera for action photos.
9) If you like manual exposure controls, forget it, this camera will make you crazy mad. It is automated, albeit it has a nice white balance mode. On the other hand, the auto presets do a better job than a human would in many cases.
10) In video mode, the color saturation is lacking and the video is overexposed 1/2 stop, this creates a somewhat washed out bluish appearance. I suspect they rushed this camera to the market and it just needs a firmware update to fix this. On the other hand, the still photo color balance and exposure is much more pleasant. Sadly the camera "forgets" your manual exposure adjustments when you turn it off.
11) The digital zoom is surprisingly the worse of its kind, quite useless, but I never use it anyway.
12) Attention Divers: The Sony "Marine Pack" enclosure is incompatible with the DSC-TX10.
13) For amateur divers: TX10 is NOT truly waterproof no matter what Sony may want you to believe. The camera is only "water-resistant" at best. It is possible to open the battery latch underwater by accident (there is no secondary locking mechanism like Panasonic's) and the seals are not strong enough anyway. Remember, all it takes is one tiny drop of water to fog your camera lens from the inside.
I have yet to see an "waterproof" consumer camera that can last more than a few hours underwater without a case. The internet is full of horror stories regarding this issue. There is no need to gamble with your investment. However, I highly recommend the TX10 for use in the rain or the snow. Maybe even kayaking.

Overall, I like this camera, it takes superb photos, not as good as a Nikon SRL but the color balance is pretty decent for the price but if you don't need a water "resistant" camera then get the recently released Sony HX7V, it takes better pictures and it is less expensive.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS3 Review

Only had it for 24 hours, but I wanted to write down my initial impressions. I purchased the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS3 and a Transcend 16 GB Class 10 SDHC card to replace my older Nikon Coolpix S560 point and shoot purchased in 2008. Well, no comparison really. The technology has advanced considerably in the 3 years since I got the Nikon. I paid just about the same for the Nikon in 2008 as for the TS3. For a quick comparison, I took the same composition on both cameras, flash and without flash, and the TS3 comes out light years ahead in resolution, color quality, lack of fringing and jpeg side effects, etc., let alone the video, location features, and many more. So, onward to the new camera, old one goes off to auction somewhere or maybe I'll give it to my daughter.

Played with the TS3 a little taking shots and videos of the dogs, just to get the feel of it. The user interface is similar to the Nikon and many other cameras of this type, so I had no problems learning the basics. I haven't dunked it in the pool yet; that will wait for the next warm weather water opportunity. But I did take it on a hike today to test the GPS and Intelligent Auto mode. For the most part GPS was pretty accurate. I took along my 'real' outdoors GPS receiver that I know is accurate to less than 10 feet or so, and then compared the GPS metadata in the pictures by plotting waypoints for each picture overlaid on the GPS track of the 3-mile or so hike with my spouse and our dogs. She took the pictures and turned the camera off and on a few times, with the GPS set to 'always on.' Most of the 20 or so photos were spot on, but one came out positioned about 50 feet northeast of the track. Then the GPS seemed to stop working, and the last few jumped to a single point about 15 miles southeast of the true position. Not sure what happened there; nothing different about tree cover or clouds, and the outdoors receiver continued to work. Could have been related to turning the camera off long enough for the GPS to deactivate, and then not waiting long enough after powering back on to get a good fix. We didn't look at the displayed GPS status so it's hard to say. Next time I'll try to pay more attention. Anyway, GPS seems to work very well when it was working and properly initialized.

Intelligent Auto mode had no problem switching to macro mode when close to some mushrooms, and the rest of the photos of medium to long-range objects were fine. The flash functioned well on macro and normal shots. Overall exposure was accurate, although underexposed by ~ 1/2 stop. Auto white balance was correct for the overcast day.

Leaving GPS on almost all the time, taking about 50 photos (maybe 40% flash) and around 10 mins of HD video, the battery is less than half used.

Overall I'm very satisfied with the DMC-TS3 performance. Next challenge -- using it underwater or in other adverse conditions where I wouldn't dare take my SLR. Oh, now I need to find a vacation...

GREAT SVP WP5300.. For what I needed it for

There are a decent amount of reviews on this SVP WP5300, and some seem to have confusion. First off - battery life.

Yes, this product takes 2 AAA batteries and many have noted that this means the batteries are dead after 1 day of usage. This camera should not be using normal Alkaline AAA batteries if you expect any sort of life out of the camera - instead spend a little extra for Lithium Electronics batteries in a AAA size. These will far out-last the stock AAA's.

Secondly - this is not a 12MP camera. $59.99 for a 12MP camera is a steal - but this is really a 5MP camera with advanced software to upgrade the resolution to 12MP. This is similar to a blu-ray player upscaling a normal DVD - yes the picture is a little better, but not the same quality as a blu-ray disc. If you're looking for a REAL 12MP camera with the same features - get the Panasonic Lumix TS3 - yes, it's +$250 over this, but its the best rugged/waterproof camera out there.

So why did I buy this camera and give it 4 stars - because of my need for it and the purpose it serves. I spent $30 (on sale) for a Discovery Kids camera for my daughter (now 5) who loves taking pictures. It takes 6 AA batteries and has a tiny postage stamp sized GRAINY screen that you can see the pictures on. Picture quality - on par with a VGA camera phone - not great and nothing you would waste money to print out. Enter the SVP WS5300 - 2x the price of the discovery kids, but its easier for her to use, just as rugged as the 'kids' camera, I don't feel bad printing out the pictures, she can actually see what she took a picture of, and lastly - its also waterproof which in my opinion makes it 'tougher'.

This camera is perfect to fill in the inexpensive don't really care if it gets absolutely abused niche. If you bought it for anything else, you'll be upset.

Individual Health Insurance
If you lack major medical, and you are fairly healthy, you may find that a private medical plan is pretty affordable. It is actually a misconception that group benefits are always cheaper than individual plans. If you have an option to extend your group benefits (i.e. COBRA) or buy private coverage, just make sure the new plan will accept you, and that it will cover services you need. Financial Aid For Health Problems

County Health Systems
Try searching for a county or public health system in your own area. They should provide reduced fee services for patients. You will probably be locked into using their hospitals, doctors, etc., but you should have access to care.

Public Health Insurance Programs
If you have a very low income, and few assets, you may qualify for Medicaid. This is the federal and state program to insure the poor. Moderate income families should look at the Childrens Health Insurance (CHIPS) plan for their state. Income guidelines to cover kids are higher than those for adults, and these plans may also cover pregnant women.

What To Do If You Have No Health Insurance
I would tell anybody to figure out how they can obtain health insurance as quickly as possible. For instance, you should try to apply for a private policy when you are healthy! You are probably not going to find coverage from a private company after you are already sick or hurt. If you do find a plan that accepts you, it will probably be much more expensive That is how insurance works.
It is always better to plan ahead. Of course, this is not always possible.. If you have a current health issue, and no health plan, you should look at some of the alternatives we listed.

The nice thing about them is that you can fill the cooker with the ingredients you need, put the lid on, set the timer and away you go. The cooker turns on by itself at the required time, and you have a hot meal when you get home.

PM Fastrack Exam Simulation Software for the PMP Exam

I've been using this software for a few months. The PM Fastrack Exam Simulation Software for the PMP Exam correlates very well to PMBOK 4th edition as well as the RMC PMP Exam Prep 6th edition. While there is ample material covered, it is not the sole basis of the PMP test content.
Software updates are delivered approximately every two weeks and I haven't encountered any issues with the update process.

It's probably one of the better solutions out there, so why didn't it get 5 stars?

In my preparation experience taking both PMP and Super PMP simulation tests, I noticed two annoying items:
1) IMHO I noticed the Super PMP test doesn't present the more difficult questions as advertised. In fact, I've experience the inverse phoenomenon where the standard PMP prep questions are tougher
2) The randon question generator needs to be more random. I've encountered near-identical exam questions while taking back-to-back simulation tests. With a pool of 1,400 questions, I understand the odds of mathematical probablity, but I recommend an enhancement here.

These two items are far from a deal-breaker and most likely software "features" fixed in a future version ;)

I realized that the Iomega SuperSpeed USB2 0 External 35141 is the best when it comes to transferring digital files at amazing speed. Though the drive capacity is just 64GB keeping the speed factor in mind the SuperSpeed wins over other external drives. I have lot of rare photos that needed to be kept safe and hence I choose the Iomega SuperSpeed for quick transfer. The USB 3.0 interface makes the device even faster. The device is also backward compatible to USB 2.0 as well using the same cable.

Incase you do not have a USB 3.0 port you can buy express card adapter separately and enhance the performance speed. The drive is recognized once it is plugged onto my computer. Backup can be taken using the free software that comes with the pack or simply drag and drop.

Another one is D-Link DAP 2553 Premier Selectable 802 11n . This is one as all wireless networks you share the bandwidth with all other clients attached to that AP or router in my case. I wanted to seperate my home AV and my PS3 (it's good to be the admin) from the same network that my kids use for streaming their music etc...

Works like a champ, great signal and very reliable so far. I did not choose the DAP 1522 because I couldn't find any data on the atennas, and with 5GHZ a little boost in DB from the antennas is a good thing. I do however use DAP 1522 as the wireless client at my entertainment center. It is a great product too, but that is another review

Citizen BM6060-57F Titanium Watch Sale

I got the Citizen BM6060-57F Titanium Watch Sale off Amazon for a birthday gift and I must say I'm impressed. It looked good in the picture here, and it looks even better in person! I read about the arm hair pulling problem and I don't have any problems but that's probably because I'm only 15 and I'm Asian so my arm hair isn't exactly long so I have no answer to that. My arm is only about 2.5 or so inches wide so I'm skinny needless to say, and the watch still fits me fine after removing some links. Time is accurate from what I can tell, but I had a little trouble setting the date, wouldn't turn past Thursday at first though I got it to by fowarding the time to the next day. I don't know if it's a problem or not since I haven't read the guide yet. Another thing I'm impressed by is the fact that this watch is solid titanium. Even in the middle of the links. Many cheaper watches are hollow inside the links, but not this one, it's solid titanium all the way through. As others have said, the markers really are very bright in the dark, I tested it in a completely dark room and I was able to tell the time with no trouble at all. I would recommend this watch for anyone looking for a stylish watch that's not too pricy. It's great for everyday wear so don't hesitate if you think it's too formal. If I, a 15 year old thinks it's not too formal, it probably isn't :). Hope this helps some of your decisions.

I originally bought the Seiko Kinetic watch SKA237 as a gift. I was not impressed with the quality of the piece and returned it. I found this watch a week before Christmas and am soooo happy with this purchase. My boyfriend is a little picky about his watch but LOVES this one. It is very light but still feels solid. He can actually see what time it is in the dark (which was one of his "must haves"). He also loves that it never needs a battery. He complained a little about it pulling his arm hairs but it has not stopped him from wearing it. He has never owned a metal band before and so will probably get used to it. The links are hard to get off for resizing (per the lady at the watch shop). She told us to be sure not to lose the little springs that come with each link. This watch looks great for both dress and casual. I would recommend this watch to anyone.

My desktop computer has been unpredictable lately, probably because it's about to go to the "electronic depot in the sky." After yet another crash, I decided I better back up the contents on my computer asap so as not to lose all my important documents. After doing a quick search of flash drives on Amazon and reading the the glowing reviews on the Clickfree 64 GB USB drive, I decided to order it.

Let's be honest - it can take a long time to go through files and folders on the computer and manually transfer things. And most of us don't have time to do this on a regular basis, which is when the trouble starts. Any product that does this task for me automatically gets my everlasting gratitude. This product really does deliver! It took about 45 minutes to back up the contents of my desktop, and I only had to click 1 button (Start) to get there. When it finished, it gave me a nice summary of everything it saved, how much memory it took, and how much space was left on the Clickfree Automatic Traveler Aluminum Chassis (still quite a bit, in my case). It also can set up a reminder to routinely back up any updates or new items, which is a handy feature.

Now I can be reassured that I won't lose any of my important documents, pictures, etc. and didn't have to waste time struggling with it myself. I plan to use this on my laptop as well, and to carry another Clickfree for when I travel. It may be pricey, but based on its features, it is worth every penny!

This is probably the best DustBuster ever developed. I am passionate about because they are so Dustbuster began decades ago. Every few years, I have to switch to a new model, and generally enjoy the new features and better performance. But this year I hit the jackpot with CHV1510. The suction is great for its size, the batteries offer long lasting power per charge and tension - the longest ever! - And the body is completely redesigned and features make this wonderful little tool.

Suction and long-lasting power are always first on my list, but a close second is ease of cleaning, and the CHV1510 takes the cake for clean-ability. The clear waste-barrel comes off with a click and BOTH ends open up so you can thoroughly clean the barrel. The filter and pre-filter are well designed, work great, and they are ALSO easy to clean.

The wall-mount bracket is fine and functional as is, but one improvement would be to make it a little larger so there would be room on the underside to wrap up all the unneeded power-charger-cord and keep it out of the way.

I loved this model so much I bought 4 of them and retired all my old Dustbusters. I have a big house and several dogs and keep one handy in every traffic area in the house so I can easily keep up with dog hair and miscellaneous specks they track into the house endlessly.

A few years ago I had an old 802.11b / g D-Link router which is on its last legs (and I bought a laptop, technology "n", so in due time) was crap. I went to Best Buy and weighed the options, and there was a Linksys and Airport Extreme. I ruminated a bit 'and then I did not own Apple products (in addition to a video iPod) and the price was much higher than others. The people at BB tried to sell the AEBS and I thought a lot for the price ... I wentwith the Linksys.

I'm pretty tech-savy and really no problem at all with electronics. That said I know that networking is a pain in the back, no matter what he says. The Linksys has been difficult to say the least, but just a little 'more confusing than the old D-Link. He continued to be more difficult, the network devices I started collecting (PS3, PSP, compatible network televisions, MacBook Pro, etc.) and had to manually configure the router whenever Dangadded. Then set the list of QoS, and find all the IP addresses of devices', the MAC address and put everything in the router. Then we say that a friend has on his laptop and I wanted to hop ... Here we go again !!!!! All in all a headache! Then recently, the router started dropping the network from scratch a little 'at first, then more and more. Sometimes several times a day sometimes! He was furious after about 1-2 days, so I started looking for anew one.

Having recently purchased a MacBook Pro (and hating all things Windows based!!!!!!!!!!) I am slowly converting over to Apple-World. So my first inclination was to look at the AEBS right off. After doing a little research I went down to the store and picked on up (had to have it tonight, remember, the dropping-signal-router?). Man, that price! But whatever, it's Apple, things are always more expensive but you get what you pay for with Apple!

AND BOY DO YOU!!!!!!!!!!! I pulled the old router out of the system and installed the AiPort Extreme Utility that came on the disc in the box on my Mac and the wife's VAIO, easy 'nuff. 5 minutes tops (and I am including getting a knife to open the plastic surrounding the box!). Then plugged all the ethernet cables I use into the back of the AEBS including the WAN cable, then plugged the power cable in. Within the minute the (new) software on my Mac found the new AEBS, clicked "want to create a new network", set a password for the unit and for the guest network, and it restart itself when I was done. I was then instructed to restart my cable modem. Another 5 minutes down. I then went to the kitchen area to grab our wireless printer (I reset the printer back to factory defaults to clear the network info in the printer) and brought it to the AEBS and plugged it in via USB cable. Opened up the Airport utility on the MAC, entered the password, went to the printers tab, selected my Lexmark printer and clicked the box to use it wirelessly. The AEBS restarted itself after that. Unplugged the USB cable, and plugged the printer back in the kitchen area, typed the AEBS password into the printer and done. Proceeded to check the (now hardwired) PS3 and the AEBS did everything itself. Set the television to its network factory defaults and rescanned, AEBS did the work behind the scenes; all done. On to the cell phones, type in the new password, done. Move to the wife's VAIO (and what I thought would be the real test of ease-of-use with this thing) and YUP! Network found, type in password, good to go! So I did in under 15 minutes what took me at least initially 2 hours and countless more over the years of owning the Linksys!!!!

Granted,Apple AirPort Simultaneous Dual Band MC340LL is the FIRST NIGHT i've owned the product so I can't speak to it's long term ease of use, so keep that in mind. I just had to get on Amazon and write this review it was so easy!!!!!!!!! I am forever impressed with Apple's ingenuity! Everything Apple just works and works the way it's supposed to! I also love the fact that it's dual band so the router speed won't drop down to "g" speed the second a "g-based" device gets on. I checked the speed in the Mac's Network Utility and YUP! Sitting at full "n" speed even though all the other "g-based" devices are on!!! I love this thing! Super easy setup and for networking that is saying a whole hell of a lot! Well worth the price! The only regret I have is not buying this thing almost two years ago

Hewlett Packard HP Portable 1 TB USB 3.0/2.0 External Hard Drive

The Hewlett Packard HP Portable External Hard Drive was packaged well and quickly in the Amazon. When I plugged the USB cable to my HP desktop, the system immediately recognizes the drive and added another dip on my system. At this point, without too much effort other than just connect the USB drive was connected, fully functional and ready for use. He took my system about 3 seconds to see, and hang the USB drive and ready. The USB drive is powered directly through the USB port of your computer there is no need for an external power supply, which is a really nice feature. It is hot swappable and is designed to work with both Microsoft OS based and MAC computers. My use of this USB drive was on a Microsoft OS based PC so I cannot say how this drive will work on a MAC.

To test the transfer speed, I transferred a 110 MB file from my system hard drive to the HP 1 TB USB drive 3 times, each time the file transferred completely in about 4.5 seconds. Although this USB drive comes with comparability for USB 3.0, my system only has a USB 2.0 port so the data transfer rate mentioned above is for USB 2.0 and not USB 3.0. Supposedly a USB 3.0 drive will transfer files up to 3 times faster than a USB 2.0 device, but having just a USB 2.0 port on my laptop, I could not validate this claim.

The drive is small, compact designed, and light weighted, and comes with a USB cord that is about 18 inches long from end to end. I have used this USB drive for about a month now and I have experienced no issues what so ever with the USB drive. Based on my month of use, this product seems to be a well built, quality product from HP and the price Amazon is selling it for is reasonable, and within the range I have seen it advertised at other online sites.

A side item of interest to those who own a newer HP desktop: The one item I dislike about this USB drive stems from the fact that I have a new HP desktop that has built in space within the desktop chassis to hold two types of USB drives that HP sells. One slot is for the HP Pocket Drive, which I own, and is a sleek, compact USB drives that is styled similar to this USB device. A HP Pocket USB Drive sticks slightly out of the chassis when it is installed. The other slot is for a larger USB drive from HP, which I also own and it fits completely within the desktop chassis and is covered by a door so it is hidden from view. So I was a little surprised when I received this USB device and discovered that is built in a manner that does not allow it to fit within either one of the two USB storage slots that HP has built into their newer desktop chassis. If you do not own a newer HP desktop, then you would not experience this issue. Although this issue has no impact of course on the quality or speed of this USB drive, it is a little disappointing to a HP desktop owner that this drive is designed in a way that it makes it unusable in either of the built in USB slots on a newer HP desktop.

Update: March 7, S 2011 I used this product for 3 months and I have no problem with the device. I connected to my desktop and laptop to backup or to transfer large files or movies once again that everything runs smoothly. Because it is powered from the USB port, making it extremely portable disk. Right now I have a Netgear WNDR3700 wireless DLNA capabilities and I was logged in as a reader to make movies and music I play on my Sony HDTV through my shop Blue-ray player which has DLNA and wireless capability.

ASUS (RT-N56U) Black Diamond Dual Band Wireless-N 600 Router

I have been on the market for an 802.11n router, and after completing some research (April 1, 2011), I decided to go with ASUS RT-N56U.

I can confirm the RT-N56U Asus router is not just a consumer good, even if it falls obviously short when it comes to advanced business functionality (which seems to Cisco), which is 99.9% of all users do not even know need or approaches. A key feature of the RT-N56U Asus router (often quoted) is thatthat you can switch it to the AP (Access Point) mode. When Asus RT-N56U is switched to the AP mode, its WAN port becomes a switch port just like the other 4 LAN ports. You can utilize the WAN port to connect Asus RT-N56U to an external router, and thus not lose one LAN port for this. Therefore, when switching the Asus RT-N56U router to the AP mode, you retain all four LAN ports for the wired connectivity to other non-Wi-Fi devices at 1 Gbps each.

Asus RT-N56U Dual Band Wireless-N 600 Router supports concurrent 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radios and the combined throughput via the back plane close to 800 Mbps. In my personal test comparing Asus RT-N56U (in the AP mode) with the Cisco 1131 a/g Access Point, Asus provides nearly the same range in the 5 GHz band that the Cisco 1131 provides in the 2.4 GHz band. Asus RT-N56U 2.4GHz-band range extends beyond the Cisco 1131's range in the 2.4 GHz band. The Asus RT-N56U 5GHz-band range extends far beyond the Cisco 1131's 5GHz-band range.

As for the connection download speed, I was able to get almost twice the download speed when connecting wirelessly via the Asus RT-N56U (in the AP mode) vs connecting wirelessly via the Cisco 1131a/g AP. The numbers were as follows: 11.8 Mbps via Cisco 1131 vs 19.6 Mbps via Asus RT-N56U. In both tests, I used the same Internet router (Cisco 871) and the same Time Warner internet connection. I never knew that my Time Warner internet connection supported 20 Mbps until I tried using Asus RT-N56U. Now I know that my Cisco 1131 - and not my Internet connection - was the bottleneck to the Internet.

Asus RT-N56U can also be used as a NAS by utilizing one or two of its USB ports to connect an external USB drive. I tried USB flash sticks on both ports, and was able to transfer files to and from those USB drives. Additionally, you can create local users on the Asus RT-N56U and provide different levels of access (r/w, r, none) to different shares for different users. This is normally called user-based access, but Asus calls this "user with account" access. Otherwise, you can enable access to the entire drive for everyone if you do not want to deal with user-based access permissions; Asus calls this "user without account" access. I am sure most home users will choose the latter access method to avoid complexities that come with having to provision local users on the Asus RT-N56U router. I confirmed both methods of access to work when a share is mounted in Mac OS X as well as in Apple iOS (iPad2). I have run into a problem accessing a 32GB flash drive that had about 16GB of space taken by various files and directories via the the "user with account" access method from both Mac OS X and iOS, but had no such problem accessing a 1GB flash drive with almost all space taken by various files and directories; neither did I have any problem using the "user with account" access method when I tried a blank 16GB drive after moving a few files to it and then creating a few directories(see below on creating directories in the root of a USB drive). I believe that if I were to reformat the 32GB flash drive and then move all of the current files it has on it back to it, the "user with account" access method would start working properly on it. As for the file system on the USB drive, so far I have only tried FAT32, which works fine, but imposes a limitation on the size of each file to be a maximum of 4GB. If you need to go above this limitation, you will have to go with NTFS, HFS (for Mac), or ext3. I know for a fact that the Asus RT-N56U is compatible with ext3, but I am not sure if it can work with NTFS or HFS. If you have found one of these three file systems to be compatible with the Asus RT-N56U, please add a comment to this review. However, even if they are, the only file system that is compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux is FAT32. So, if you are planning on running the Asus RT-N56U in a mixed environment and are planning to be able to read from and write to your USB drive directly from your computers as well as across the network, your common-denominator file system for the USB drive should be FAT32. If you are only planning on working with your files over the network, any file system that the Asus RT-N56U is compatible with would work for you as long as you can format your USB drive in that file system. As of this writing, the Asus RT-N56U cannot format a USB drive attached to it, so you would have to perform the formatting on one of your computers or use the default file system that your USB flash drive is formatted in, which is most likely FAT32.

It appears that even though you can manually mount USB devices connected to the Asus RT-N56U in Mac OS X (via Cmd+K in Finder), you cannot mount those drives by double-clicking the RT-N56U entry that pops up in Finder under Shared. I used the app called "Files Connect" on my iPad2 in order to enable Finder-like (or Windows-Explorer-like) file browsing capability. I was able to mount the USB drives by tapping on the Asus RT-N56U entry that Files Connect auto-discovers. I am not sure if Windows Network Neighborhood can auto-mount the USB drives connected to Asus RT-N56U because the manual says that you should enter the network path manually. The fact that you cannot specify a more granular access permissions to the sub-directories of a share is definitely a limitation for the enterprise, but should be no problem for a home or even a small-business user.

When you insert a blank USB flash drive in one of Asus RT-N56U's two USB ports, the Asus RT-N56U automatically creates a share (named "share") in the root of the drive and creates three sub-directories in that share (music, pictures, video). This is done in order to prepare the flash drive for the UPnP server that can be enabled in this router. I have tested the UPnP server, using Xbox 360 as the streaming client, and can confirm that the UPnP server works just fine in the Asus RT-N56U router. If, on the other hand, you insert a non-blank USB flash drive in to a port on Asus RT-N56U, no additional shares are created, and the access to all directories/shares in the root of the USB drive is provided as read/write. You can, however, modify the access permissions on a share-to-share basis and assign different types of access (r/w, r, or none) for different local users specified in the Asus RT-N56U.

Asus RT-N56U can be a print server, but this feature is of no use to me because for this feature to work, a Windows based program supplied by Asus is required. Because I use mostly Macs and Apple iOS devices, I cannot utilize the print-server feature of this router.

Last but not least, Asus RT-N56U can utilize one of its two USB ports to connect to a 3G or 3.5G cellular USB modem and share that connection among the Wi-Fi (and probably wired) LAN clients. I have not tested this feature, so I cannot comment on its usability and stability.

Overall, I don't think you can find a better consumer-grade 802.11n Gigabit Ethernet router as of this writing. Judging by the frequency of firmware releases for the Asus RT-N56U router, the bugs remaining in the firmware will soon be worked out, and hopefully, Asus will add additional features to this router, such as direct IP-based (or even Bonjour-based) print server so that Mac users can utilize the print-server feature of this router. Also, it appears that the "dd-wrt" team is working on porting their firmware on this router, so in the future, you may have a choice of replacing the stock firmware with "dd-wrt".
